C.P.C. Certificate of Professional Competency
Under a new European Union directive all LGV/HGV, Bus and Coach drivers must hold a driver CPC in addition to their relevant licence. Depending on when your car licence was acquired will determine which C.P.C. course you will need to attend.
Initial CPC
If you obtained your car licence after January 1st 1997 you must complete the initial C.P.C. It is split into two sections, the case studies and a practical course.
Driver CPC case studies test (computer-based exercise with 7 studies based on real-life situations - eg driving in icy conditions)
Driver CPC Practical Demonstration. You will learn everything to do with health and safety, security of your vehicle as well as safe loading and unloading.
Once these two sections have been completed you will be provided with a DQC (Drivers Qualification Card) which will be valid for 5 years and means that you can legally earn within the logistics industry.
Periodic CPC
For drivers who obtained their licence prior to January 1st 1997 must complete the periodic CPC. This course consists of 35 hours of classroom based tuition. The course is generally split into 5 days at 7 hours a day.
This course can be completed within one week or spread out at a time that suits you. There is no test and the course is attendance only.
Once the course is complete you will be provided with a DQC (Drivers Qualification Card) which will be valid for 5 years and means that you can legally earn within the logistics industry.
